Data Brokerage

Turn any dataset into map-ready geo output, hosted by Maptoolkit

Data Brokerage is how Maptoolkit turns data sources into the geo output your product needs.

Some customers come with a clear idea of the dataset they want, but need help finding reliable sources. Others already have files or feeds, but do not know how to turn them into something that can be shown on a map. In both cases, Maptoolkit acts as the bridge between data sources and the final map experience.

Data Brokerage projects are delivered as bespoke solutions and are available as part of Maptoolkit Enterprise.

What Data Brokerage means at Maptoolkit

Data Brokerage is a practical middle layer between:

  • Upstream data sources: open data portals, vendor datasets, customer-provided files, public feeds
  • Your desired geo output: map layers, vector cartography, overlays, and other map-ready representations

The goal is to transform and publish the data so it becomes usable in real products, through Maptoolkit’s hosted delivery.

What we help with

You can involve us at any step that matters for making data usable on a map:

  • Source discovery: If you know what you want to show on the map but not where to get it, we help identify and evaluate suitable sources.
  • Compliance support: We help interpret usage terms in practice, clarify what attribution is required, and support compliant integration.
  • Transformation into geo formats: We convert and structure datasets so they behave well as map layers and geo outputs.
  • Hosting and delivery: We host the result, so your team consumes it via a stable API and map outputs without running custom infrastructure.

Examples

Webcams

For the online tour platform Bergwelten, Red Bull Media House wanted to incorporate webcams at relevant locations that enable users to be able to see current conditions. These are pulled from Windy.com and displayed as geo-data and cartography in the interactive map of Bergwelten.

Open Government Data

The city of Vienna, Austria, wanted to use the detailed public data published by data.gv.at. Maptoolkit aggregates the data relevant to Vienna and converts it to vector cartography in their new, interactive full-screen map of the city.

OpenStreetMap Data

For Printmaps.net, as well as several customers, we aggregate POIs from OpenStreetMap and display them in the format that each project requires. For Printmaps, this is in the form of an interface that enables easily adding pins of real POIs to a map.

Public Zoning Data

For firmenbuchgrundbuch.at, Compass-Gruppe’s online access service for official Austrian register extracts, Maptoolkit was tasked with aggregating all Austrian real estate and zoning data from 9 different sources.

Public Road Network

The touristic DMS platform mein.toubiz wanted to incorporate the German road network and bycicle junctions from several different government open data sources. Maptoolkit compiles these sources into unified vector cartography that is displayed in the mein.toubiz route editor.

Weather Data

Several existing customers were in need of predictive weather data. In response, Maptoolkit built the Weather API. This API scrapes open data text files that are released periodically, transforms the content into a usable structure, and serves the result as map-ready vector output.
