Raster Tiles API
High-quality raster map tiles for reliable and detailed mapping
The Maptoolkit Raster Tiles API provides integratable map tiles for interactive online maps. Unlike vector tiles, raster tiles are pre-rendered images, making them easier to use and ensuring consistent rendering across all devices. They require less processing power on the client side, making them ideal for high-detail maps and broad compatibility, but they lack the dynamic styling and infinite scalability of vector tiles.

Our Map Overlays
We offer a set of standard overlays that show map states that can be switched between interactively to display different features on the map. Such features can be bike, hiking or public transport networks, protected areas or the slopes and ski lifts of a winter sports resort. These are just the standard overlays that we offer. Our framework gives many more possibilities to display customized data and feature sets with customized styles as part of our Enterprise package.

Map Styles
Our Raster tiles come in 6 default map styles for various applications and needs. If your needs are not met by the offered map styles or you simply prefer a style that matches the colors of your brand, we offer custom map styles as part of our Enterprise Package.

FAQ
Vector tiles are smaller in size, scalable, and are rendered on the user’s device. Raster tiles are static images that are rendered by the server and then delivered to the user per request (dragging or zooming the map).
Since Raster Tiles are pre-rendered images, the performance is better on lower-end or older devices. Some libraries don’t support Vector Tiles out of the box.

We do not offer it out of the box, but you can create a pre-packaging application yourself. We have some know-how on the matter and can support you in doing so.
Most of the data comes from OpenStreetMap and we combine this data with other sources for special demands. You can see the full list of our data sources here.
